The background: The grapefruit as a diet aid has been known since the '30s, when Hollywood stars of the grapefruit diet popularized. Today the diet in various forms resurfaced. The grapefruit diet of the '80s was limited to 800 calories and consisted of grapefruit, black coffee, little egg, dry toast, and sometimes meat and fish. With recent research, is back before the grapefruit.
 
Researchers have found that Naringin, a grapefruit bitter substance which makes the absorption of fatty acids in cell blocks and reduces insulin levels. Insulin lets blood sugar levels rise and signals the body to produce more carbohydrate and less fat as fuel.
